The Work We’ll Do Together

Choosing to begin therapy is an act of courage and tenderness — a powerful step toward caring for yourself and creating lasting change.

My role as a therapist is to offer you a grounded, compassionate space where healing can unfold at your pace. Together, we’ll create a therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, safety, and curiosity — one that supports your growth while honoring your lived experience.

I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families navigating many of life’s complexities: trauma, grief, anxiety, life transitions, and identity exploration. Through our work together, we’ll move toward greater self-understanding, resilience, and alignment — always meeting you exactly where you are.

Areas of Specialization

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people through a wide range of emotional challenges and personal turning points. Use the tabs to explore some of the areas I most often work with:

Anxiety, Mood & Emotional Wellbeing

Even when life seems steady on the outside, our inner world can feel turbulent. Persistent worry, emotional overwhelm, or mood shifts can be exhausting. Therapy offers a calm, nonjudgmental space to understand and work with those experiences.

Common Focus Areas

  • Generalized, social, and performance anxiety

  • Depression and mood disorders

  • Test anxiety and perfectionism

  • Self-criticism and self-worth

  • Emotional regulation and resilience

Life Transitions & Identity

Times of change often stir deep questions about who we are and what comes next. Whether you’re grieving, redefining your role, exploring identity, or standing at a crossroads, therapy offers a place to reflect and reorient.

Common Focus Areas

  • Grief and end-of-life concerns

  • Living with chronic or invisible illness

  • Divorce, separation, or relationship shifts

  • Sexuality, identity, and intimacy challenges

  • Infertility and family-building journeys

  • Career or life direction changes

  • Dating and relational resilience

Adolescents & Young Adults

Growing up is complicated. Young people today face increasing emotional and social pressure — and many struggle with focus, identity, anxiety, or relationships. Therapy offers a space to explore, build skills, and feel more connected to self and others.

Common Focus Areas

  • ADHD in children, teens, and young adults

  • Social anxiety and friendship challenges

  • Emotional regulation and impulse control

  • Social skills and relational growth

  • Autism spectrum support

Child Therapy

Children often express what they feel through play, creativity, and imagination more than through words. In my work with children, I use child-centered play therapy, expressive arts, and role-playing techniques to help them safely explore and process their inner world. Through these developmentally attuned methods, children can work through big emotions, build confidence, and develop healthier ways of coping and connecting. My approach is grounded in empathy, respect, and collaboration with caregivers, ensuring that each child feels seen, heard, and supported every step of the way.

Common Focus Areas

  • Anxiety and excessive worry

  • Behavioral challenges and emotional outbursts

  • Grief and loss

  • Family transitions (divorce, new siblings, moving)

  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress

  • Social skills and peer relationships

  • Low self-esteem or self-criticism

  • School-related stress or performance pressure

  • Attachment issues or separation anxiety

  • Sensory sensitivities and regulation challenges

Healing in Times of Crisis & Change

Life can shift in an instant — through loss, conflict, or unexpected change. In these moments, it’s normal to feel disoriented or overwhelmed. Therapy can be a steady anchor, helping you reflect, recalibrate, and find your next steps.

Common Focus Areas

  • Navigating divorce or separation

  • Relationship conflict resolution

  • Career or life crossroads

  • Bereavement and meaning-making after loss

Trauma and Recovery

Trauma can leave lasting imprints on how we think, feel, and relate to the world — but it doesn’t have to define the rest of your story. In therapy, we’ll work together to create safety, build internal resources, and gently explore the impact of what you’ve been through, so you can begin to reclaim a sense of clarity, connection, and inner steadiness.

Common Focus Areas

  • Childhood and adult trauma processing

  • Recovery and healing after sexual abuse

  • Support for grief, loss, and bereavement

  • Stabilization and recovery following crisis events

Sexuality & Identity

Sexuality is a deeply personal and often complex part of who we are. In my work, I offer a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore a wide range of concerns related to sexuality and identity, including sexual orientation, identity confusion, sexual dysfunction, and male infertility. Whether you’re navigating questions around homosexuality, facing intimacy challenges, or struggling with the emotional impact of infertility, we will work together with compassion and curiosity to better understand your experience and move toward healing and clarity. You don’t have to face these questions alone.

Common Focus Areas

  • Sexual identity and orientation (including homosexuality and bisexuality)

  • Identity confusion or questioning

  • Navigating faith and sexuality

  • Sexual dysfunction (e.g., desire, arousal, performance issues)

  • Male infertility and its emotional impact

  • Intimacy and connection challenges in relationships

  • Shame or anxiety related to sexuality

  • Trauma-informed support for past sexual experiences

Insurance

I don’t bill insurance directly, but many clients are able to use their out-of-network benefits for partial reimbursement. My office provides a monthly Superbill (a detailed invoice) and will gladly offer guidance to help you navigate the process.

Before we begin, I recommend checking with your insurance provider to better understand your mental health coverage. And if any questions come up along the way, we're here to support you.

Every person’s path is unique, and I’ll always tailor our work to your individual goals, pace, and needs.

Whether you're seeking clarity, stability, self-trust, or simply a safe place to reflect — you are welcome here.

If something within you feels ready to begin — or even just to explore — I warmly invite you to reach out. Finding the right therapist is a meaningful step, and I’m happy to answer any questions or schedule an initial consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

You can contact my office by phone (516) 612-3264 or email ncg@drnealg.com. Your inquiries are handled by my office with attention and with care.

I look forward to hearing from you whenever you are ready.
